We sold her! :(

"Little Gypsy", a Sovereign 7.0, and our first ever sailboat at anchor with her new owners. They picked a rough weather day to take delivery.

This week, we are closing on a 1994 Hunter 29.5 in Hollywood, Florida and we'll be sailing her home on Saturday. The boat's name is Rapture and we're not going to change it. Follow our adventures at SV Rapture.

  1. Hi! I've only just discovered your blog, so forgive me for the late response as you've already sold your Sov7, "Little Gypsy". I have a 1981 shallow-draft Sov7, currently named "Puffin", which I sail on Lake Conroe, Texas (just north of Houston, TX), to fluky lake winds. I've a couple of questions for you, if you don't mind. I will read through all your blog, but I'd be greatly helped by focusing on these queries. 1) My boat seems to have a great deal of difficulty tacking through 90 degrees...more like 110 to 120 degrees. Have you had similar problems, and if so, have you solved this in any way I might find useful? 2) I occasionally race, and find I come in dead last, even with PHRF handicapping applied. Have you found any way to increase boat speed? I know you purchased newer sails at some point in Little Gypsy's life -- my main is somewhat tired, but the jib and 150 genoa are nearly new. Any tips for either of these questions? THANKS!!
